This is a really valuable discussion, and I have unofficially found most of the personality-music taste connections stated here to be true. The rock music lovers' low self-esteem is something I have reflected on, attributing it to the general rejection of the counter-culture lifestyle by the elders and parents of the era. I also think music taste tends to change over time for individuals. The rebellious nature of the teenage years gave us swing, protest, rock 'n roll, psychedelic rock, emo, rap -- in my experience we tend not to enjoy jazz, classical, trance, and compositional music until the adult years, and that makes sense. This inquiry activates a worthwhile set of ideas that can lead us to many truths about ourselves.
