There was something deeply inspired about Jimmy Carter's life, almost divinely inspired. His simplicity, authenticity and grace made him unique among American Presidents. Of course he lived to 100; he was above and beyond his time. In my view, the America we face today -- bitterly divided, with the middle class shrinking and the ungodly rich taking up way too much space and wielding shadow influence -- has its origins in the post-Carter administrations of the 1980s. In Biblical terms, we left the Garden of Eden and went directly to Armageddon.
