The problems occur loing before university. I was a K-12 teacher and administrator for three decades and the stifling bureaucracy bordered on criminal - the cliques and the secrets, the subterfuge and throat-cutting, the fear like a poison running through the meeting rooms, infecting even the good people. Somehow we created a world that values intrigue more than integrity. And the intellectual pursuits of a university education are so far from where most people live that the universities either need to adapt or they'll die. It's anyone's guess what's left after that.
