Writer’s Statement

David Mamet quoted Hemingway — You sit down at the typewriter, cut open a vein and bleed — on the best days the writing is filled with blood and rage. The love and acceptance will come; I have felt its presence. But first there is blood.

I write creative non-fiction, some fiction, and find unique subjects that show me an angle of the world not often seen: dangerous clichés, bad systems we set up and then forget about, hypocrisies we continue to live by or with. I like numbers. I have synaesthesia, where I see letters and numbers with definite colors. I also see 3D graphs, maps, all sorts of shapes that help me navigate inner logistical space.

I have my own glossary of terms and a list of metaphors and comparative connections. I value authenticity, forgiveness, the grand sweep of this epic, and the 2–3 pure moments I’ve been lucky enough to experience, with another dozen almost pure.

I rage against: judgmentalism, conformity, clichés, abuse of power, fear, groupthink, racism, war, hypocrisy. And of course the dying of the light.
